This post will guide you in setting up your Pixelmon server and linking it to Tebex. We'll also provide guidance and tips for creating a gym and trainers, so you can make the most engaging experience for your players. With currently 905 Pokémon added to the game mode, your players will have hours of fun collecting them all and challenging other players and gyms!

Pixelmon is a hugely popular Minecraft mod that will bring the world of Pokémon to your server. Your players will be able to run around the world and battle pokémon, catching rares and legendaries, battling and defeating trainers. There is plenty of scope for creativity on a Pixelmon server, and for an immersive and fun experience, you should consider making your login location a breathtaking and jaw-dropping build that will make players remember their first time joining your community. Get your build team together, or for a simple start, you could also install a schematic for your server spawn using the creativity of many other talented builders.

You will find that the wiki for Pixelmon Reforged is helpful in getting started in creating your new Pixelmon server, and you should spend time familiarising yourself with the various commands and the gameplay. Many Minecraft servers on other game modes allow players to fly unnaturally through an admin command, and this can be a fun addition, but whether you decide to allow this for your Pixelmon server is up to you. Flying pokémon exist within the game, and because of this, the ability to fly can be earned through the player working towards catching a flying pokémon. There are other transport mounts, such as water mounts, which add more reasons for your players to complete their Pokedex! If you don't want to allow your players to fly (op style), then this is a great way for your players to earn the privilege to ride on a caught Pokemon.

Connecting Your Pixelmon Server to Tebex

Installing Pixelmon Reforged doesn't take long, but getting your server configured how you like it will take a bit of time. We're using GTX Gaming as our server host, Magma for easy installation, and we're also using Pixelmon Reforged for our chosen pixelmon mod. Other Pixelmon mods exist (and they are also great!) but you may find instructions will be different if you're using a mod other than Pixelmon Reforged.

Watch Ted's video to see how you can connect your Pixelmon server with Tebex below:

Gyms

Gyms will be spawned near towns throughout the map when you create your world. Make sure you have read through the Gyms wiki page, so you understand the various options you can use.

If we want to customise our map and have a real experience for our players to enjoy, we need to spend some time planning our player's journey. Will your player progress through a set of gyms along with a storyline? Will gyms be laid out in the world with no set route? Will you add details to your world, such as custom NPC dialogue and quests? All important things to think about and you should take some time to plan out how you want your players to feel and what their journey through your server will look like.

Pixelmon Reforged has a pre-built blueprint for each gym type; Electric, Fire, Flying, Grass, Grass/Bug, Ground, Ice, Psychic, Rock, Steel, and Water gyms all have different builds and are distinctive from one another. If we wanted to place some of these gyms in the world as they are, using the blueprints, we have several commands available. To place a level 10 Ice gym into the world near our spawn, we would type '/struc icegym lvl10'.

Placing an Ice Gym using the /struc command

The gyms need adequate space before being placed into the world, so you should consider this when attempting to spawn them in.

If you wanted to spawn in NPC trainers throughout your world, this is perfectly doable and you can customise them further using the NPC editor, so you can add custom text and actions. You are able to breathe new life into your Minecraft server by utilising the various mods and plugins available because you are using Magma. You should spend some time researching how you would customise your Pixelmon server and how you can make it different to others.

Other Customisations For Your Server

Now that you have installed Pixelmon and you know how to spawn gyms, you should think about the other things you want to be in your world. Here are a few ideas:

  • Customise and add new NPCs - Custom NPCS mod by Noppes - If you want to add more functionality to your world, perhaps you want to add quests or flavour NPCs that aren't invested in pokemon then you should look at adding a mod like this. This mod comes with the option to add jobs and roles to NPCs, so you can add banks, traders, the mailman role and more. This mod will allow you to breathe more life into your world, and if you wanted to build epic cities and populate them with NPCs then you can! So when your players first arrive at a capital city they are greeted with a metropolis that's more than an empty shell. This mod even allows you to add quests and other excellent features for making your Pixelmon server a living and breathing world to be explored.
  • Take a look through published mods available for Forge and you'll begin thinking of new and fun ideas of making your server even more unique and special for your players to enjoy.

Pixelmon Reforged is a great gamemode that you can run alone or as part of a server network with other gamemodes such as Skyblock or Vanilla. There's so much that you can create with a versatile gamemode like this, and your players will have hours and hours of fun exploring and taking part in events.

When you're setting up your Minecraft server to work with Tebex, don't forget that there are tons of ideas you can use for ingame events, and you can use our tools for creator codes, coupons and sales to reward your players for being part of your community. If you're brand new to Tebex then we recommend working through our 6-part basics tutorial which will walk you through setting up your store. You may also find our other tutorials useful, such as how to create a custom fishing event, how to set up player ranks, and how to create your server spawn.

Now that we've introduced you to Pixelmon, we hope you have fun creating an amazing world for your players to explore, and if you want to get in touch, our friendly support team will be happy to help at support@tebex.io.
