This post will provide you with some guidance so you can get started making custom maps for your project!

RUST is a fantastic game, perfect for people who like to explore, build, and PvP! It's a very popular game at Tebex and we're here to help you get started on your journey. If you're toying with the idea of getting started in content creation you might find this blog post really helpful.

We currently only support RUST on Steam, but we're here to help make things as easy as possible for you with tips and guides. If you run a RUST game server, you likely have already watched our awesome tutorials on getting connected to Tebex and our other great guides on RUST plugins, and our recommended top 10 plugins you should use.

Custom Map Making Tutorial

Let's look at a video by Ted Pommes (yes, our very own Ted from Tebex!) in his video series that teaches you how to get started in making custom maps for your RUST server:

This video is the first in a playlist created by Ted that walks you through creating your very own map.

Custom maps (and ingame items too!) help with the longevity of your server, this is because your players will have a new experience every time they play on your new maps. Creating your own custom maps can be a great way of sculpting your server universe so that you really make your server unique. You could also have admin members work on custom maps as well, this is a great way to bounce ideas around and get the creative juices flowing.

An Example Of A Custom Map

Let's take a look at an example of a DayZ-themed custom map in RUST, it's awesome:

You will see lots of small fun additions to the map that make the map different from a regular vanilla map. All of these little additions make your map different to others out there, and this can help your players stay engaged with your server.

As part of running your server, custom maps can freshen up new resets or new seasons, can help you organise mini or server-wide events and can bring new depth to the user experience. Growing your server is also an important aspect you need to be aware of, so watch our tips video by Ted here.

We have a large collection of RUST tutorial videos on our channel to help you get started in running your server, here are some you might find super helpful: VIP examples, kit plugin explained, gather manager and stack size controller, restrict access, and many more. The best thing to do is subscribe to the YouTube channel so you can see when we release a new tutorial!

Can I Distribute My Custom Maps On Tebex?

If you don't run a game server, but you enjoy making custom maps and want to distribute them to other servers or players, you can absolutely use Tebex to automate this. We would recommend the RUST store type and use downloadable files to deliver your product. This means delivery is completely automatic and your customer can receive the file containing your maps while you're offline/asleep/on holiday!

Before you distribute your files on Tebex, go through our checklist:

  • Have you taken plenty of screenshots or a YouTube video showcasing your fantastic content? Your customers need to see it!
  • Have you written a great product description that tells the customer everything about delivery, installation and how they can contact you?
  • Have you decided where to advertise your creation? There are plenty of websites and forums you can showcase your build!
  • Have you created your store? We have a getting started guide that will help you get set up.
  • Have you decided if your content is free or paid? If you plan to take payment for your custom content, you could consider launching your new product with a coupon or sale discount. You can also consider pay what you want pricing.

Need some further help? Just drop us a message at support@tebex.io and our friendly support team will get back to you as soon as possible.

Happy creating and good luck with your project!
