This week we are delighted to present “Skycade”. A server with a hub themed around retro gaming arcade cabinets!
This blog post is part of a series on some of our amazing webstores. Giving readers insight into what it is like to run a game server, and letting our merchants tell their story as to how they got started in the world of server management. Last time, we checked out PokéFind one of our awesome servers for Minecraft.
About Minecraft
Minecraft, developed by Mojang, is one of the recent success stories of the gaming industry. Having launched in 2011, after a successful beta period that garnered a ravenous fan base, Minecraft then went on to become the single best selling game of all time. Eventually bought by Microsoft in 2014, the story of Minecraft didn't stop there, with new game modes and iterations of the much loved game being launched. Fans all around the world fell in love with the concept, music, and simplicity of the vanilla experience. Minecraft spawned a fanbase that has created a plethora of YouTube content, huge amounts of artwork, and a vast array of mod packs, and texture packs. Minecraft is already a classic.
About Skycade
Skycade is a server themed around a variety of different game modes, six to be exact! There are six different Game Modes found in Skycade, KitPvP, Factions, Creative, Cannoning, Survival Multiplayer & Skyblock. We will be taking a more detailed look at these modes further down in this feature.
Skycade Main Hub
When players first load into the Skycade Server they will be greeted with an amazing retro playground! Looking around players will be able to see huge replicas of classic arcade cabinets! PacMan, Pong, Space Invaders and more are all recreated in all their retro goodness, these are a sight to behold for sure, the level of detail is simply amazing!
Behind where the Game Mode NPC's are is something very interesting! There is a parkour game hidden within the hub itself. Players can make their way behind the NPCs and across the blocks towards where the ? block is on the right hand side of this area. Jumping up this block and navigating up to the piranha plant will then take you across the green power pellets near the green ghost! This parkour course can be followed around the hub and gives some excellent views of the surrounding arcade cabinets!

Skycade offers players of their server oppertunities to be a part of their team! There are three different forms over on the Skycade website. We take a look at each of them in some more detail further down.
Skycade Builder Application

This Skycade builder application lets players apply to be a builder on the Skycade server! Make sure to include links to your best builds when applying to let your skills shine. Using an image hosting website such as Imgur is a great way to display your screenshots. Check out the form above if you're interested!
Skycade Staff Application

Skycade are currently looking for motivated and capable individuals to join their team. If you are interested in becoming a staff member within the Skycade community then this is for you. Make sure to take the time to fill this out carefully. Skycade notes that all applicants must be aged 13 or over to apply to be a staff member.
Content Creators Program
Skycade are offering a program aimed at content creators who want to regularly play on their server! Content creators such as YouTubers and Streamers can apply to join this program, subject to some requirements. Sucessful applicants will be granted a "MEDIA" blue named rank in game and on their Discord server with a number of special perks too. Game Modes
Factions
Factions is a strategy focused mode where you fight for your faction. PvP, huge bases and raiding? What's not to like! Fight for your faction in this unique factions experience. Factions allows all players to have 4 different homes and a virtual Ender Chest for storage. Upgrades can be purchased from the Skycade store for various Faction features. There are also signs within the hub that allow players to Enchant and Repair their items.
There is also a new "Skycade Factions Pass". When purchased from the Skycade Webstore, this allows players to choose from either Blaze orSilverfish and grind different tasks by killing an amount of a respected mob type. This then allows players to earn rewards based on the amount slain. Find out more about the Skycade Factions Pass here.
There is lots to explore in the Factions hub in Skycade. In one section of the hub world there are two NPCs. The Server Merchant allows players to buy and sell goods in the Factions server with other players on the server. With the Auction Master players can choose their own prices for their items on sale.
Walking around and exploring the Factions main area, players can find 4 different portals! Nether teleports players inside of the Nether World and spawns them in a random location. Over World teleports players to a random location within the OverWorld area. Sandstone World teleports players to a random location within the Sandstone world and finally End World randomly teleports players to a location within the End World.
There is even a PvP Arena that can be accessed by a huge pit beneath the floor in the mian hub area! Jumping into this pit will enable PvP and the only way out of this arena is to enter /spawn into the chat window! Enter at your own risk!
Cannoning
Have a blast on the cannoning server! Test your cannons, organise your base, and work with conditions identical with the Factions server. The Cannoning server features 30 x 30 chunk plots, WorldEdit Uploadable schematics and more.
Creative
Build to your imagination in Creative! World edit is obtainable in this mode by voting. Creative mode features plots that are 100 x 100 in space, upgradable plots, monthly building competitons and more!
Creative allows players to have a 100 x 100 block sized plot. This can be upgraded by purchasing a package over on the Skycade webstore! Make your plot as awesome as you can, with monthly competitions you've got to be in it to win it.
Skyblock
Take to the skies in Skyblock! Expand and explore your floating island and have fun doing it. Skyblock features, 3 tiers of islands, player warps, parkour events, crates and more!
KitPvP
Dive straight into PvP with KitPvP! With amazing kits that are unique to Skycade, you'll destroy the competition! KitPvP features, 54 unique kits, leaderboards, gangs, seasonal rewards, crates and more!
KitPvP is a fast paced mode which can get hectic! Make sure to keep moving around the arena and keep your wits about you as you keep a look out for other players. With leaderboards you can fight your way to the top!
SMP
Survival Multiplayer is pretty simple, explore an expansive 1.16 version world on your own or with friends. SMP features world building with no PvP or griefing, a mining world, End and Nether, simple land claiming and more!

“We're proud to have hosted our tight-knit community for the past 6 years. We have much less pay-to-win packages on our Tebex store than the other servers. Despite this, we're still going and hoping to continue to keep this goal in mind.”

“Continue developing interesting content and grow our Factions, SMP, KitPvP and Skyblock communities. Regularly restart seasons to give new players a chance to win”
What advice would you give for people starting a server/community?
“Be innovative. Building a server takes effort and cannot be achieved just by adding a bunch of public plugins. It requires care and sometimes custom solutions to give players the incentive to join your server and not that of someone else that has the same features and has been around for longer”
